Where Will My Michigan Driver’s License Appeal Hearing Take Place During the Pandemic?
Until March 2020, Michigan license appeal hearings were held at the Secretary of State branch office closest to the Petitioner’s address. There were only three live hearing locations where Administrative Law Judges (or “Hearing Officers”) conducted license appeals hearings: Grand Rapids, Lansing and Livonia. Some branches had the videoconference capability to conduct the hearings remotely, but the Petitioner had to arrange transportation to the branch (often many hours away). For out-of-state Petitioners, they typically had their hearings scheduled in Lansing, meaning they would have to fly or arrange transportation back to Michigan.
Then the Pandemic hit……
Since May 2020, the Michigan Secretary of State has primarily utilized technology (Microsoft Teams) to conduct the hearings remotely. Now, a client seeking to restore their revoked license can do so from their home, their office, or their attorney’s office. This is obviously ideal for people who don’t have a driver’s license to begin with. And, it is particularly ideal for people who live out-of-state, so that they don’t have to arrange costly and difficult transportation back to Lansing.
More importantly, gone are the days where a client needed to find an attorney located close to their house or to their local SOS Branch. Now, a client is free to choose the best attorney for their case, regardless of location.
For clients looking to restore their license ANYWHERE throughout Michigan, they should contact a licensing lawyer who has significant experience in the field and experience appearing before each Hearing Officer. For the last 22+ years, attorney Daniel T. Geherin, owner of MiLicenseLawyer.com and based in Ann Arbor, has dedicated his career to helping put drivers back on the road following a license revocation. Without debate, he’s recognized as a licensing lawyer in Ann Arbor and throughout Southeastern Michigan.
Each week since May 2020, Dan conducts an average of 2-3 license appeals via remote technology. Ironically, the pandemic allowed him to increase the number of license restoration clients he can help, because it has eliminated the time involved in traveling from branch to branch. He’s appeared before each Hearing Officer on countless occasions. Dan has successfully filed and won hundreds of Circuit Court Appeals in Washtenaw County and throughout Southeastern Michigan.
Dan has close to a 98% success rate in winning license appeals over the past two decades. In the last 10 years alone, he’s helped put 350+ clients back on the road lawfully and legally. To prove that these results are legitimate, he even posts the case numbers of successful appeals on his website here so that potential clients can see his extensive success. He’s taught other attorneys about driver’s license appeals in numerous seminars, and has written a book, Michigan Drunk Driving and Driver’s License Restoration Handbook, on how to protect and restore your license following a drunk driving arrest in Michigan.
